Our Charities

The Flatlands Lions use the money they raise to sponsor organizations that provide vision and community health programs, as well as support for the physically challenged and aid to those who are disadvantaged or in need. 100% of all donations we receive goes to charity – the Lions volunteers take care of all of the administrative costs.  The following is a list some of the charities that The Flatlands Lions have endowed over recent years:

In support of sight, the Lions have provided local vision screening and eye exam programs as well as eyeglasses for those in need.  We routinely give assistance to families in the local community that are suffering from hardship, helping with medical bills and providing accident and disaster relief. On the national level, we have given support to the Lions Club International Foundation’s (LCIF) disaster relief effort to aid the victims of Hurricane Katrina in Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida.   We have supported local recovery efforts for Hurricane Sandy, and in 2013 secured a $40,000 LCIF grant for rebuilding in Gerritsen Beach, Brooklyn.   The Flatlands Lions run an annual Toy Drive, which provides toys and warm clothing to hundreds of children at area agencies.

We have also responded on the international level, donating to a hospital facility in India and a mission helping orphans in South America. One member, a doctor of optometry, donated his services in medical missions to the Dominican Republic in 2010 , 2012 and 2016. We have provided support for the continuing work that the LCIF is doing in critical areas like Haiti and the Tsunami Relief, Recovery and Rebuilding effort in the devastated areas of Southeast Asia.
